Message from the Directors
On behalf of the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, we would like to extend our warmest welcome to you as you begin your UCSF Surgery Clerkship. Our clerkship is designed to be inspiring, stimulating, while providing top-notch healthcare for a diverse patient population. We will provide a solid surgical foundation that hopefully you will be able to apply for the rest of your lives regardless of which medical career path you choose.
Our faculty has a strong vested interest in student education and we want to share our passion for surgery with you. The relationship that surgeons have with their patients is special and we consider it a privilege where we help patients and their families during their most vulnerable state. We accomplish this mission by working together with a team of many health professionals that help us ensure our patients get the best care possible. As medical students, you will become an important member of our team.
We also offer mentoring, career counseling, and research if you are interested. At the end of your clerkship, you will also be given the opportunity to pay it forward by becoming a surgical educator yourself through our Near Peer Teaching.
Please do not hesitate to contact us or our staff with any questions or concerns during your clerkship. We are committed to your success and will provide every possible tool to help you achieve your goals.
